“The Edit”
Shortlisted and Featured on SkyArts "Landscape Artist of the Year" 2016. “The Edit” is a created scene built out of "edits" or architecture, monuments and plants that I've collected from different places in London. It combines an examination of the power of peripheral vision, and what is forgotten in the process of re-developing city scapes. It uses fragments of monuments of architecture, such as the Battersea power station, first considered eyesores, to create a more contemporary narrative that places it amongst landmarks such as the Georgian architecture of Mayfair, and the incomplete industrialisation of East London. The scene is presided over by a statue I have re-purposed to represent Trivia, the Goddess of Crossroads, who emblematizes the current mix of cultures, stories, and history that defines London as a city today. |
